Spatial Information Management Framework
The Spatial Information Management Framework provides the organisational framework and management principles for making spatial information accessible and useable.
The principles set out in the Framework underpin the management of spatial information by custodians, and the development of applications based on spatial information.
The Spatial Information Management Framework for Victoria provides the basis for an ongoing consistent approach to spatial information management through a set of core requirements for achieving best practice.
Victorian Spatial Information Strategy 2008-2010
VSIS 2008-2010 is the premier strategic document for the spatial information community in Victoria.
Through it, the VSC has painted the landscape for spatial information in Victoria and set the broad themes for facilitating the whole spatial information community’s participation in the landscape – these themes will be the focus for engagement in the next three years.
Four integrated strategic directions are set out
- creating a framework in which the use of spatial information can flourish
- adopting an inclusive approach to the management of spatial information
- developing the spatial information community through collaboration and partnerships
- maintaining the foundations for Spatial Information Management
The implementation of VSIS will be based on achieving each of these directions, together and separately, and with the contribution of all members of the spatial community.
VSC Work Plans
The VSC’s annual work plan incorporates activities under the following 5 headings:
- VSC Operations
- Communications
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Policy and Strategy
- Projects
Together they enable the Council to achieve its objectives through:
- Maintaining the Institutional Framework through appropriate structures and processes – providingthe context in which the VSC’s operations are undertaken
- Establishing the Spatial Information Management Framework through policies and standards – focusing on the policies and standard settings that support delivery of initiatives that enhance the use of spatial information and its incorporation into business operations
- Strategic Initiatives that demonstrate the application of spatial information in business operations
- Initiatives that suggest the future Strategic Direction for development and/or application of spatial information – testing emerging issues or applications that may be further developed in the future
2010 Work Plan
In 2010, in conjunction with its usual activities, a significant feature of the Council’s work plan will be developing the 2011-2013 Victorian Spatial Information Strategy.
